You can also get by for free in doing what most other families do - having older siblings hand old clothes down to younger ones as they outgrow them.

If you’d still rather shop at department stores, you should buy as much as you can during closeout sales. Items from struggling factories or that have been over stocked are usually marked down a lot. These discounts aren’t always advertised, but they’re typically found on items sold in bulk.

As sales can teach you, timing plays a big role in determining the best deals. Even online, you can get discount coupons good for a set amount of time. Different months bring sales on different things for much of the retail market. Kids’ clothes are usually cheapest during September, November, or December, so try to do most of your shopping then if you can.

One last thing is that you really do have to stand up against your kids when they try to get you to buy the latest fads. These items are always expensive and nearly every time, they will be forgotten as quickly as the styles that came before them.
